State and Non-Profit Tobacco Control Organizations

We are confident that your organization (state tobacco control organization or non-profit group) is already focused on reducing tobacco use by young people and has developed many resources for both tobacco prevention and cessation. However, one area that is often overlooked by many groups is providing programs to help young people aged 14-25 quit their use of smokeless tobacco (snuff or chewing tobacco).

With the support and funding of the National Cancer Institute we are developing MyLastDip.com to become a resource that your organization can use to assist young smokeless tobacco users in quitting their addictive habit. Our Web-based program will offer many benefits to your organization:

• It is free to any smokeless tobacco user who has access to a computer and has an email address, and expresses an interest in quitting.
• It is able to reach out to rural users or users who do not have access to any other assistance for helping them quit smokeless tobacco.
• It is an adjunct to any other program you have for tobacco cessation.

What can you do to help?

We need to build a network of supporters who will help us promote the availability of MyLastDip in order to alert as many young smokeless tobacco users about this resource as possible. We need your help since you are in a position to let tobacco control folks in your state or organization know about this resource.

Please join with other tobacco control organizations around the country to help us with our promotion effort. Some of the specific activities that will help get the word out include adding a MyLastDip.com link to your Web site as well as the websites of high schools and post secondary schools in your state. And because we believe in the power of grass-roots networking we hope you will inform your colleagues and staff about the importance of this innovative Web-based program so that they, too, can become involved. Finally, we ask our supporters to send us their own ideas about how to promote this important resource from the perspective of tobacco control organizations, and we’ll share these ideas with others through an online newsletter.
